Lisa Marshall
Senior Fellow
Lisa is a Senior Fellow at Good Energy Collective, where she supports GEC’s social license research, helping to inform more effective stakeholder engagement practices by advancing the foundational science of community engagement in energy infrastructure. Lisa’s educational background includes a master’s in Geography with an emphasis in nuclear energy geography, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and graduate certificates in geospatial information science and engineering education from North Carolina University, where she is nearing completion of a Doctorate in Higher Education specializing in equity-centered engineering. Lisa brings more than two decades of expertise in engineering education and a strong focus on the importance of gender equity in the field of engineering.
Lisa is the 70th President of the American Nuclear Society, where she has been a member and held leadership roles for over 20 years. Since 2001, she has also served as the inaugural Director of Outreach, Retention and Engagement in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU), where she holds the role of Assistant Extension Professor and chairs the NCSU Association for Women Faculty. She has chaired the Association of Women Faculty and the Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee for the American Association of Geographers as well, and she currently serves on the Board of Advisers at the University of Tennessee and Virginia Commonwealth University.
Additionally, Lisa is a member of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Council of Advisors and the NEA High-Level Group on Improving the Gender Balance in the Nuclear Sector. She chairs the NEA Global Forum Working Group on Building a Pipeline of STEM Professionals and sits on the Task Force on Achieving Inclusivity and the Working Group on “Rethinking the Relationship between Nuclear Energy and the Society.”
Lisa’s extensive background in engineering education and her devotion to equity within the field of engineering is a key asset to GEC’s people-centered ethos.
In her free time, Lisa enjoys Pilates, science fiction, and traveling.
