Job Description

We are looking for a community engagement lead to develop, organize, and spearhead our community outreach and engagement activities.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated working experience engaging with and coordinating among the types of entities listed in the section below. Experience communicating clean energy, climate change, or environmental justice issues is also highly valued. We welcome applicants from non-traditional backgrounds. 

Good Energy Collective operates as a worker self-directed nonprofit organization. This means that employees are empowered to direct their own work and develop their own career path, as well as share responsibility in fostering good workplace conditions and shaping the direction of the organization. Applicants should be capable of working independently and managing their own time and tasks. All staff will work collaboratively with Good Energy supervisors to develop a description of their role and responsibilities as well as mentorship needs and goals for personal and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building out Good Energy’s "rules of engagement," grounded in established best practices, for external outreach and interactions, often with under-resourced communities or individuals
  • Planning and managing execution of outreach and engagement with local community-based organizations (CBOs, including environmental, climate, environmental/energy justice, and civic engagement groups, etc.) town/county/state officials, unions, local chambers of commerce, economic development councils, and emergency services professionals, etc.
  • Conducting one or more internal landscape analyses to identify potential communities to engage with on shared topics of interest
  • Overseeing consultants or contracted professionals supporting Good Energy’s community engagement. Contracted work could include formal qualitative research (e.g., formal focus groups and small-scale opinion surveys), quantitative research (such as county-, state-, or national opinion surveys), and mediation services
  • Participating, to the extent desired, on relevant research panels and talking with members of the press as opportunities arise
  • Contributing toward products that support or enhance community engagement efforts 
  • Administering community engagement activities, including scheduling meetings and supporting travel and venue bookings

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a diverse team, especially virtually 
  • A passion for progressive issues 
  • A willingness to engage and learn
  • An interest in climate change, environmental justice, and/or nuclear energy

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary range: $65,000–$90,000 for 0-4 years’ experience; $80,000–$110,000 for 3-8 years of experience. (Experience includes post-Baccalaureate education.)
